The Society for Early Modern Classical Reception (SEMCR) is an affiliate group of the Society for Classical Studies and an associate organization of the Renaissance Society of America. Through its online presence, annual SCS panel, and annual RSA panels, SEMCR provides opportunities for a wide audience of classicists to engage with the large number of scholars of early modern literature, performance, philosophy, art history, book history, and intellectual history. We hope that the Society will be of particular interest to younger scholars and graduate students considering new avenues for research or collaborative opportunities that require expertise in Classics. The group has no formal membership: its constituency is defined by those people with an active interest in any aspect of early modern classical reception. Our SCS affiliate charter began in 2016 and our RSA status began in 2017.
